Guidance Notes
We have an on-going grants programme thanks to the funds that we have set up on behalf of our individual, business and trust donors. Each fund has criteria or themes outlining the type of community activity or social need that our donors wish to support. Some funds are for specific geographical areas.
It's important that you complete the Expression of Interest form first to see if and how your project fits with the aims of these funds. We shall then send you the appropriate application form for completion.
Principles
- Our grants are targetted to meet community needs and priorities as chosen by our donors;
- Our grants can be a one-off payment or, if appropriate, spread over a maximum of two years;
- Our application process is as simple as possible;
- You will be given support and advice when making a grant application;
- Our donors want to fund well-run organisations, so we need to see financial statements and we shall ask you about your policies, procedures and constitution;
- All applications are considered by our independent, voluntary Grants Panel.
Priorities
- Locally-based community and not-for-profit groups who have a clear understanding of the needs of their community and are making a real difference;
- Projects which build or develop community capacity and empower local people to transform their communities, and
- Groups which are working to become self-sustaining.
Who can apply?
- Voluntary, community or not-for-profit groups that are charitable in purpose and are working for the benefit of people in Buckinghamshire;
- Organisations do not need to be a registered charity, but should have a signed constitution and a bank account in the organisation's name (we can help you create a constitution if needed);
- Parish and Town Councils can apply for funding for local community projects which are over and above their statutory responsibilities and where they are working in partnership with local communities, and
- Faith-based groups are welcome to apply where the project aims to meet the wider needs of the local community.
What kind of projects can you apply for?
Depending of the range of funds available, we can support the vast majority of community activities, including
- new and existing projects;
- core running costs, and
- capital expenditure.
The criteria do not allow the awarding of Grants:
- To organisations and projects operating solely outside the county of Buckinghamshire
- To promote religious causes
- For overseas travel
- To individuals
- To statutory organisations (with the exception of Parish Councils)
- For any party political activity
- To organisations whose principal concern is animal welfare
- For relief of statutory responsibilities
- Fee-paying schools
- For Small Grants only, for recurrent expenditure or ongoing core costs
